Twitter Stupidity

Some of the posts I read on Twitter never cease to amaze me. I advise our clients to not get too trigger happy with the tool as you never really know whose inbox/feed is going to see your tweet.  Twitter can be especially dangerous for those "Twitter addicts" who quickly forget the reach/audience of their tweets.  The 140-character nuggets don't live in a vacuum and can sweep across the web faster than many realize if the content is right.  And I won't even talk about the "Oops...that was supposed to be a DM!" mistake that most have made - self included.

The latest gem involves a guy named @theconnor, a job at Cisco, and one of the dumbest Tweets to date.  Read the entire article on MSNBC.

Nunchuku skills, bow hunting skills, computer hacking skills, AdWords skills

Jeff-tweet Big props to Click Rain's own Jeff Meuzelaar (notice how smart he looks in this recent photo), who recently put in the time to earn his Google AdWords certification. The Google AdWords exam is a bit tricky...kind of like those Iowa Basic Skills Tests in grade school, but without the No. 2 pencils.  In short, Jeff is now a search marketing ninja in both paid search and SEO.  Nice work, Jeff!

Another Tweetup? Oh yes, my friend.

6a00e550c765db8833010536e89c2a970b-120wiThe first official Sioux Falls Tweetup was a raging success.  We met, we talked in 140 character sentences, we had a few beers, and a good time was had by all.  It's on that note that another Tweetup is has been scheduled for April 9 at Latitude 44 in downtown Sioux Falls.  Follow @clickrain for continued updates - you can also get some additional details here.  We hope to see you there!

Click Rain in the News: Good Ink

They say any PR is good PR (whoever "they" is), and Click Rain has had the fortune of getting some positive press recently.  We won't regurgitate the coverage, but you can check out the articles below (which are open access for a limited time).

Top 10 Up & Comers- from the Sioux Falls Business Journal

Twitter Fever - from our friend @JWKirsch at the Argus Leader

On a somewhat related note, we also were honored to take home the Best of Class in Interactive Media at the recent 2009 South Dakota Advertising Federation ADDY Awards.  The recognition was for the Chris Lien for Congress microsite.  It was an innovative project for a great candidate and we were honored to play a small role in his campaign.

Now, back to work.

More Evidence on the Effectiveness of Long Tail SEO

We often preach the concept of long tail search engine optimization to clients interested in quality search traffic, not quantity.  Recent numbers from eMarketer appear to back the long tail concept, as the chart below details. Long live long tail.

Discovering Blip.fm

I stumbled across blip.fm recently and must say, I am killing more time than I should on this sweet little site.  It's an iTunes/Twitter mashup that allows you to share music with followers, create playlists of "blipped" music, and ultimately, expose yourself to music and genres you would have never otherwise found.  The Blip playlist is surprisingly deep, including an extensive catalog of lesser-known, indie artists.  For you faithful Twitter users, blip.fm is a nice addition to your social media arsenal. Two thumbs up.
